Caring for a Senior Dog: Pet Beds Are About More Than Finding a Place to Sleep
For those out there who are lucky enough to have a dog, pet beds and supplies are probably the least of your financial worries when it comes to your canine pal. Between regular check-ups and emergency veterinarian visits, vaccinations, food, and sometimes even pet rent or more costly homeowners insurance having a dog is not one of the cheaper things to do. As your dog gets more and more into old age you will probably find that things get a little bit more expensive, at least medically speaking. While they may not require so many toys and items of diversion they may require a bit more intensive medical treatment and a few of the extras in life that you weren’t so pressed to provide when they were puppies. Pet beds are just one of those things that become less of a luxury and more of a necessity as Fido gets older, and rather than have them uncomfortable at night, it is best to make sure that they have the best life they possibly can by ensuring them a comfy place to snuggle up at night.
Heated Beds are Snug and Warm
For those pet owners who live in an area of the world where the winter months are a bit colder, as your pet gets more up there in age you will probably find that his bones and joints respond to the cold a lot like yours do. It doesn’t take a veterinarian to be able to tell that your dog is having one of those achy joint days, and as they get older these days will become less few and far between. Heated dog beds are a great way to help your best friend overcome the discomfort that those achy days can bring. There are few better methods of going about providing your pup with a warm, snug place to sleep off the pain than with one of these beds. While these warming beds sound like they would cost an arm and a leg, that isn’t’ always the case. Pet beds themselves aren’t the cheapest things pet supplies you can by, so look around for some of the great deals on heated beds that you can find for you raging pet.If the heated beds are a bit much for your area of the United States or you are looking for a less costly alternative, fleece beds are also a great idea. If you have any fleece clothing or pajamas then you already know just how snuggly they can be, and the same goes for dog bedding. Fleece dog beds are a much more economical alternative to the heated pet beds yet they can still provide a great deal of warmth and comfort for your canine.
Make a Snug Place for the Crate Trained Canine
If your dog is trained to spend time in their kennel without a problem, you may find that they spend more and more time in there voluntarily as they get older. This is a good thing, as it means that you have correctly instilled in them that their crate is a place for security rather than punishment. Crates are also a great way to make sure they don’t succumb to the danger of the stairs or other areas in the home that they may not be able to maneuver as well so if they are wanting to spend more time in there, take it as a good thing. At the same time, it isn’t as easy to let them be in there on the cold, hard cage bottom as they may have done as a younger dog. There are beds that are made just to fit inside of the crate and cover the bottom of it so that they have a more restful place inside their crate to sleep. Dog crate beds aren’t extremely high priced; they cost about the same as a regular dog bed but are sized perfectly to fit the bottom of whatever size dog kennel your canine makes use of.
Orthopedic Beds for Dogs
If your dog is really up there in age, you may want to go a step further than the normal warming dog bed or fleece bed and look into something more along the lines of an orthopedic. Orthopedic beds are definitely not going to be cheap by any means, but they are well worth every penny. If your dog doesn’t currently suffer from severe joint problems or body pain then an orthopedic bed may help them to offset such discomfort. At the same time, heated orthopedic dog beds are great for those dogs that are already aging and suffering from pain in their hips, knees, or back due to cold days, long walks, or just old age.As you can see quality bedding for your dog is about more than providing them with a place to sleep. Pets bring a substantial amount of love and happiness to our lives, and as a pet parent it is your responsibility to make sure that you provide your most faithful friend with everything they need to live comfortably in their old age. Good pet bedding can help you to do that.
